Lightning 70

Available now!

Lightning strikes twice!  Continuing our mission to make classic kits of classic jets, we are delighted to announce our Lightning part kit for 70mm EDF for 3-4 channel RC.

This beauty shares the same design features as our very successful Lightning 50, but bigger! We have tried to keep to the scale outline as much as possible and the model perfectly captures the look and charisma of the original Mach 2 classic.

Many 70mm fans are available of course for this popular EDF size - ours is flying on a 6S set up (Wemotec 2W27) which give near 1:1 thrust:weight ratio and the generous wing area makes for a lovely handling model which absolutely looks the part in the air but behaves nicely for an easy landing.

Lightning 70 is a practical, easy to build model which combines a strong structure with great flying characteristics. Like our smaller Lightning and Canberra models, two carbon tubes run the length of the fuselage to provide rigidity, great strength and ensuring alignment during the build.

Lightnings are a relatively quick build, much of the fuselage curve is parallel so can be built with sheet leaving just a little planking around the compound curve areas in the nose.  Full build details are included in the very comprehensive instructions and plans.

Our model is the Lighting F6 which has a large belly tank which provides generous volume for battery and gear under the ducting.

This is a part kit, which provides the major and time-consuming components to build a scale R/C EDF jet.   It contains laser cut ply and balsa parts (14 sheets in total):

  • 3mm Liteply Fuselage formers
  • 2.5mm Balsa wing ribs wing spars
  • 3mm Ply spars
  • 1.5mm control horns
