A very near scale model of the legendary British twin-jet interceptor for Electric Ducted Fan propulsion and 3-channel RC. 

We are very pleased with our little Lightning, we hope you will be. 

Careful design has resulted in a practical, easy to build model which combines very near scale appearance with a strong structure and  great flying characteristics.

To keep a scale intake we opted for a single fan design as a twin would need an enlarged intake or a cheater hole.  The single fan exhausts through the upper tailpipe, which keeps the lower tail are clear to house the axle joining for the all moving tail sections

The outline of the model is very near scale, the only real deviations from scale being the use of a flat bottom aerofoil for the wing section for ease of building. The air intake is very slightly increased, but not noticeably and the nose has the character and look of the full size. 

The model is relatively large for the fan unit in order to have scale intake area and retain the scale narrow fuselage, but still has plenty of power and the generous wing area allows a very wide speed range and good easily controlled landing characteristics.

Like our Canberra models, two carbon rods running most of the length of the fuselage provide rigidity, great strength and ensure alignment during the build.

The Lightning we have modelled is the F6 version with large belly tank. This provides a good area to belly land on and careful positioning of the bungee hook allows the model to sit at the correct angle on a take off ramp.

This is a part kit, which provides the major and time-consuming components to build a scale R/C EDF jet.   It contains laser cut ply and balsa parts:

• Scrap 1/64 ply for nose intake 18mm x 205mm
• 3mm balsa strip
• 5mm nylon washer x 2
• Art card
• Covering and finishing materials
• Glue
• 50mm EDF unit and speed controller
• R/C gear
